Who We Are
27 Years of Community-Led Development
In 1996, a question arose about the role of “Civil Society.” Individuals from civil societies gathered, tending to bring changes in the lives of the poor, ignorant, and marginalized people. This voice inspired youth, professionals, and social activists for collective action.
LOK SUDHAR means in local Hindko words — “Lok” means the people and “Sudhar” means to train, mentor, facilitate, and develop. We were inspired by Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan’s ‘Dehat Sudhar’ model established in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1967.
Most development practitioners are aware that Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan established a village-based organization named “Dehat Sudhar.” This served as a source of inspiration for adopting the name Lok Sudhar.
