Most development practitioners are aware that Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan established a village-based organization in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1967, named “Dehat Sudhar.” This served as a source of inspiration for adopting the name Lok Sudhar. LOK SUDHAR means in local Hindko words that Lok means the people and Sudhar means to train, mentor, facilitate and develop.

Registration
Lok Sudhar is registered with the Social Welfare Directorate under the Voluntary
Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961 (XLVI of 1961). The
registration number is DSW 1184.
• Lok Sudhar is also registered under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Charities Act 2019, with
the registration number KP-5218228696305032.
• The registration process with the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) is underway, and an
acknowledgement from EAD has been received.
